This was a special cake to make. It was ordered by a husband for his wife for their 5th wedding anniversary. The traditional anniversary gift at 5 years is wood, so we decided to put wood around the cake. The chapel is representative of the RCMP chapel at 'Depot' in Regina, in front of which the couple was married. It was Chocolate cake with fudge buttercream.

Going To The Chapel

It's My Cake!
Part of the joy of making cakes is getting to see the recipient's reaction. Unfortunately I did not find this same joy when making my own cake! All I could think is 'it doesn't matter what it looks like, it's just for me'! But I pushed through and friends and family thoroughly enjoyed this layered Lemon and Red Velvet Cake with raspberry and vanilla buttercream.

Daisy's
When given free reign, you can bet there will be daisies, and some of them are going to be purple!! This was a birthday cake for a sweet little girl. It was Vanilla with strawberry buttercream.
MOPS Cakes
MOPS (Mother's of Preschooler's) is a fabulous group of mom's that I am lucky to be a part of. They, in return, have been the lucky partaker's of a few cakes to date.
Lego Man
This is one of my favorite cakes to date. It was just so fun to make! It was a Chocolate and Vanilla checkerboard cake.
Choo Choo!
Another year, another dream. This year for our previously mentioned eldest son's birthday I decided to up the ante. He loves anything with an engine, but trains have been especially near and dear to our hearts for quite some time. Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream.
Now, the observant reader may have noticed that 'eldest' has had two cakes so far, but there has been no mention of 'youngest'. Sorry little man, I forgot to post your pictures. For our youngest's first birthday, I was running low on energy and motivation. Kind of unforgivable, but nonetheless I went for cute and cuddly:
Birthday Girl

Purple is my favorite color. If I could work with purple every day I would. This was another fun practise cake for a friend. It was Lemon Chiffon with raspberry and vanilla buttercream.
Birthday Boy
As my interest in cake decorating has grown, I've used friends birthday's as opportunities to practise different techniques. So far no one has complained!
Easter Basket
I had so much fun, and did some more learning, making this Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream in the shape of an Easter Basket for a young friends Easter themed birthday party.
Red, White and...Pink
This was a baby shower cake for another beautiful little girl. The cake was a layered Red Velvet and Vanilla, with a light cream cheese frosting and a layer of raspberry in the centre. It was absolutely delicious!
Dora The Explorer
Being the mother of two very boyish boys, I am always excited to do cakes for little girls. Thankfully there are lots of little girls in my life who can't get enough of all things girly. These Dora cakes, while similar in look, were done for two entirely different girls, at two different ages, but they were both equally enjoyed with big smiles of excitement.

The Cake That Started It All
I have never been accused of being an artist. I was gifted with music from a young age, but making things with my hands, for viewing pleasure, was not something I've ever considered. So it came as a big surprise to myself, and more to my husband, when our eldest was approaching his second birthday and I decided to try to make a cake that was a little fancier than just icing and sprinkles. Disney's Little Einstein's was his show of choice so I felt like I was jumping into the decorating ring head first when I chose to do Rocket from the show. I was excited, I was confident, I did my research...just a little too late.

Being a perfectionist, I will always find something to pick apart on each cake I do, but over all I was really pleased with the way Rocket turned out. If only he had been red; instead he was an interesting shade of fuchsia! Ah well, lessons learned...
So I'm putting this picture up, not because it's a fantastic depiction of what I can do with a cake, but because it shows where I've come from. It was during the making of this cake that I realized I love to bake, I love to decorate, and I loved the smile on my little guy's face when he saw his cake! And I wanted to try to do it again - only better next time!
